Born in: Detroit, Michigan
Resided in: Vienna, Virginia

Judy Sloan, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on March 15, 2025, at the age of 85. On January 27, 1962, she married the love of her life, Thomas Sloan (90), and together they raised three sons, Andrew (dec.), Daniel (59), and Jeffrey (56). Judy and Tom’s marriage is a model of a true lifelong union, full of support and dedication for one another.

Judy always put our family at the center of her life. She raised her three sons to be caring men in her loving and supportive home. She welcomed three daughters-in-law, Nancy, Carrie, and Kim, into the family as if they were her own daughters, and relished any time all of her family could be together. She prided herself on being an involved and “fun granny” to her grandchildren, Laurel (37), Calvin (23), Trevor (21), Noah (27), and Sammy (25), and Sammy’s wife, Nazdim (26). She recently embraced her great-grandson, Finnegan (1) – a joyful moment! The entire family will remember her as a cheerleader in our lives – championing all we did with unmatched enthusiasm, genuine interest, and deep love.

Judy grew up in Berkley, Michigan and was a proud alumnus of Michigan State University (Go Spartans!). Throughout Tom’s career with U.S Customs, they moved numerous times around the country, with Judy steadfastly planting roots in every new community, including Vienna, Virginia. But Michigan was always close to her heart, especially the family property in Howell that her father bought in 1950, where all three boys learned to drive tractors and catch frogs, and where Andy and Nancy eventually opened Sloan Farms.

As a teacher, Judy taught every age group from preschool to Junior College and shared her love of learning with her students and all of us. She liked to study her family roots and left behind albums detailing our family tree. We will especially miss her fondness for traditions and the Christmas season. To know Judy was to revel in her positive outlook – one we hope to emulate in our lives to honor her memory.

Friends and family are invited to a celebration of life ceremony at Money and King Funeral Home in Vienna, Virginia, on Saturday, March 22 from 10:30 Guests will be received starting at 9:30 am.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Judy’s memory can be made to Catholic Charities USA. https://www.catholiccharitiesusa.org/

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Uncle Tom, Danny, and Jeff,
So sorry to learn of Aunt Judy’s passing. I will always remember her high energy, infectious enthusiasm, and big, happy smile. But most of all, i recall how she was unafraid of the dance floor and always encouraged the room to join in the fun. I loved her dancing moves! I’m lucky to have known her.
Thoughts and prayers are with you guys during this difficult time.
    Lots of love,
    John

  2. Judy was the big sister I never had. Summers at the farm with her were a blast. A cross between George and Stell produced one of a kind. Terry and her became good freinds when she moved back to Howell, never thinking it would be the last time we would see her when she moved back to Virginia. She had a full life with many ups and downs. Always with a smile on her face I know her last move will be up. We will be thinking of you guys along with her.

  3. I am sending my condolences to the Sloan Family. I have witnessed during many special occasions with her son, Jeff and daughter-in-law, Kim, how much Judy was cherished as a model mother, teacher, and grandmother. She was a special angel!

    With sympathy for your loss!

    Patricia Tate

  4. After hearing so many wonderful stories and memories of Judy, I’m so glad I got to meet her over the summer. I could really feel the love she had for the whole family. Thinking of you all.

    Love, Lily
