Douglas "DJ" Reedy Jr.

Douglas “DJ” Reedy, Jr, a devoted husband, loving father, and proud 20-year veteran of the United States Air Force, passed away on March 22, 2025, after a ten-month battle with colon cancer. His commitment to service—to his country, his community, and his family—defined a life lived with honor, kindness, and generosity.
Born on April 19 in Lexington, SC, DJ grew up in a loving home that taught him the importance of loyalty, hard work, and, above all, the value of family. This foundation helped to shape him into the steadfast leader, mentor, and protector that he became—both in his military career and in his personal life. DJ was a graduate of the Citadel and a retired US Air Force Master Sergeant.
DJ led a life of service, first in the Air Force where his two-decades long career took him around the world as both a firefighter and a special agent with the Air Force Office of Special Investigations; then, post Air Force, DJ continued to serve his country as a civilian with the Department of Commerce as the Director of Insider Risk Management. In both his Air Force and civilian careers DJ served with distinction, earning the respect of his fellow service members, colleagues, and foreign counterparts. When not at work, DJ poured his heart into community, becoming a beloved coach, mentor, and volunteer.
Above all, DJ was a family man. He was a devoted and supporting husband to Kassia and an extremely proud father to Trey and Noah. He cherished every moment with his family, from short walks around the neighborhood with stubborn dogs, to cheering (loudly) at games, to quietly watching tv shows at home. His love was unconditional, his laughter generous, and his loyalty to family unwavering.
DJ is survived by his wife of 22 years, Kassia; his children Trey and Noah; his parents Doug and Pat; his brother, Ryan, and wife Mary; his nieces Eliza and Lucy; and his grandmother Eileen. Though he has left this world, his legacy of service, love, and strength will endure in the lives he touched.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, April 4th at 6pm at Money & King Funeral Home, with visitation starting at 4pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Colorectal Cancer Alliance (https://colorectalcancer.org/) or Burn Pits 360 (https://burnpits360.org/).
Rest easy, DJ. Your mission is complete, but your legacy lives on.

They say, find a job you love…well, DJ did that when he became a Special Agent for the Office of Special Investigations on Langley. When he put that new badge on for the first time, it was like watching a kid opening up the Christmas gift he had been wishing for. DJ found his calling and did it exceptionally well. That was the DJ I will always remember, giving his all for the betterment of those he served.
DJ’s wisdom, his friendship, his just being himself will be greatly missed but his legacy will live on forever in the hearts and memories of those who had the distinct privilege of knowing him, even if for a brief encounter.
May God embrace you as he welcomes you on your heavenly journey and higher calling my friend.
DJ was a kind and consummate professional while still managing to have a sense of humor that helped lighten the load when we discussed serious topics. I will miss him as a colleague, and to the family he leaves behind, I am so sorry for your loss.
Please know that our thoughts are with you and his loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. Please know we are saddened by his passing but will always remember the positive light he shared with us.
DJ was one of a kind. Rest easy my friend.
DJ was a good man with a heart of gold. I’m sure he will be missed bye so many. Love to you and the boys. He’ll be with you always in your heart.
May God Bless You, Always!
Nick and I are better for having DJ in our lives-his smile, laugh, leadership, his love of life, and his parenting stories made us realize what true friendship is and how very rare it is.
His legacy will live on in each of us.
Kassia, Trey, and Noah-we love you and we are here for you today, tomorrow, and in the years to come.
So sorry to hear this. What a great guy. I remember his mom as our gym teacher at Red Bank Elementary. My condolences to his family.
Prayers of comfort and peace. DJ was a classmate at Lexington High School. We were in the marching band – the LHS CatBand – together. I am so proud of all the accomplishments he had after graduating. 💙💛
DJ was a great colleague at the Department of Commerce, a stalwart fellow alumnus of The Citadel, and a proud veteran of our US Air Force. He was one of the most dedicated and professionally competent leaders and managers in our office; he was also infectiously optimistic. In short, he was great guy whom I will miss a lot. My deepest condolences to all of the members of his family — it was my great privilege to have known DJ for these past years.
With prayers and love, from the Dept of Commerce Client Security Services; and the Harman Family.
We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of DJ Reedy. DJ, along with Kassia and Noah, has been an extraordinary member of our Shelter House community, generously giving time, energy, and heart to support families experiencing homelessness.
DJ exemplified the very spirit of selfless service—never hesitating to say “yes” to a call for help, no matter how big or small the task. Whether it was delivering essential supplies, tutoring students, assembling furniture, painting, or simply showing up where support was needed, DJ’s quiet strength and unwavering dedication left a lasting mark on all of us.
Our hearts go out to Kassia, Noah, and the entire Reedy family. We are so grateful for the compassion, generosity, and love DJ brought to our mission. His legacy will live on in the lives he touched and the hope he helped restore.
With deepest sympathy,
