On March 30, 2025, Tyrone Oliver Holmes loving husband, father, grandfather and brother departed this earthly life at the age of 85. Tyrone was born August 15, 1939, in Arlington, Virginia to Weldon and Harriet Holmes. Tyrone was married to his lifelong love, June Bush Holmes for 67 years. Their everlasting love began at Luther Jackson High School and spanned over 69 years. The love they shared bloomed to expressing love and care to others. It was commonplace for them to deliver Thanksgiving and Christmas care packages to loved ones and those in need.
Tyrone was good-humored and known for his many positive life mottos. “It takes all kinds of people to make up the world” is one such motto. Tyrone was one of the people that made the world a better place. He never met a stranger and showed unwavering kindness to all that he met. Tyrone enjoyed gardening, family fishing trips, family camping trips, Sunday family drives, family backyard picnics, being a Dallas Cowboys fan, being a member of the Matadors of Virginia, watching old Western movies, listening to oldies but goodies and making custom grandfather clocks, but most of all he enjoyed sharing his life with his family.
In his youth, Tyrone developed a strong work ethic and later became a dedicated provider. Beginning at age 11, he held several jobs such as delivering groceries with a wagon he built, being a golf caddy, working in a restaurant, working in a bakery, working in Brown’s Hardware, Friendly Cab driver, Melpar (NASA) employee, followed by being a United States Postal Service employee until retirement after 34 years.
Tyrone was preceded in death by his parents Weldon and Harriet Thomas Holmes; son Anthony Oliver Holmes; brothers Carson and Francis Holmes; and grandson Marcus Thomas Holmes.
Tyrone is survived by his treasured wife June Bush Holmes, children Arondo, Gregory (Rose), Mark (Tracey) and Belinda, daughter-in-law (Hau), 13 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, sister Yvonne (Neil), along with a host of family and friends who will forever cherish his love.
Tyrone was a lifelong Methodist and joined the Baptist church with his wife. Tyrone was a man of deep faith and never missed saying his daily prayers. We know he is in the everlasting arms of the Lord and happy to be joined with loved ones in Heaven.
