Conway David Hankins aka: “David or Davy” of Aldie, Virginia passed away on January 19th, 2022 after a brief battle with Covid Pneumonia. David was born in Memphis, Tennessee to Calvin David Hankins and Cathy Marie Hankins. David attended Oswego High School class of 85’. After high school, he joined the United States Air Force where he served in the Honor Guard, and as a tour guide at the Pentagon. He was affectionately known as “Big Hank” by his peers and colleagues in the service. Following his service, he attended Virginia Commonwealth University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Arts.

David was most recently employed by BAE Systems and worked with other Government contractors prior. David’s hobbies included cooking specifically BBQ, he entered several BBQ contests where he often won, and usually did so with a humble approach and modest equipment. David loved to participate in festivals with his family, and he loved to feed his family and friends. He was delighted to see everyone enjoying his food. David’s dream was to open a BBQ restaurant, nothing big, just something simple. He was a humble guy who never wanted a lot of attention and was truly a gentle giant.

David was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Conway Yates, and will be joined in Heaven with his wife Maria Morales-Hankins. He is survived by two sons Matthew and Joshua Hankins, his Father Calvin David Hankins, his Mother Cathy Marie Hankins, and two sisters, Shelby Grice and Suzanne Hughes. He has three nephews Anthony Pizzo, Gavin Grice and Kris Vogel.

David will always be remembered in our hearts. His BBQ will always remain unmatched, along with his kindness. He was the best dad anyone could ever ask for and will be missed by all.

Relatives and friends are invited to David’s Life Celebration at Money and King Funeral Home, 171 W. Maple Ave., on Friday, March 11 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Vienna Presbyterian Church, 124 Park St., NE, on Saturday, March 12 at 11:00am. Interment to follow at Fairfax Memorial Park.

  3. I miss my brother so much and it will be hard without him. He was such a great dad , brother, and husband. He was a big teddy bear and had the biggest heart. He was a very genuine person and always loved. He loved his family and loved cooking for people and it made him happy when people enjoyed his food. He could always make you laugh no matter what. Davy, I will miss you more than you can imagine. I love you so much. Your little sis, Suzy
