September 16, 1932 ~ January 13, 2025

Resided in: Vienna, Virginia

Ruth Christina Wood, age 92 passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday January 13, 2024.

She was preceded in death by her husband Peter, and her two sisters Ada and May.

Ruth lived a meaningful life, both in the UK, where she was born, and here in the US. She had a passion for learning, reading, music, theatre, knitting, needle-point, travel and (stemming from her Irish decent) had a true ‘gift of the gab’ where she could strike up a conversation with anyone anywhere and make them feel welcome. She treasured the relationships that she had with family & friends and that she built with new acquaintances. She worked as a librarian back in the UK, and also at Patrick Henry Library in Vienna Va. As a homemaker, she along with Peter raised their two children. Over many years, she and Peter also served and were active members in St Thomas Episcopal and Vienna Baptist churches.

Ruth’s life was a testament to love for her family and friends. Ruth is survived by her two sons, Andrew and Simeon here in the US, along with nieces and extended family who reside in the UK.

Embracing an Irish blessing:

May the road rise up to meet her.
May the wind be always at her back.
May the sun shine warm upon her face,
And the rains fall soft upon her fields.
And, until we meet again,
May God hold her in the hollow of his hand.

We love and will miss her… we invite you to join us in honoring the beautiful life of Ruth. Her memory will live on in the hearts and minds of those who knew her.

  1. Although I miss you Mum, I know that you are no longer suffering, and finally together again with dad, your sisters, your parents and family.
Thank you for being such a wonderful, kind, patient and compassionate parent to myself and Sim.
You will be missed by so many people whose lives you touched

  2. Ruth, I always enjoyed your stories about when you were young and growing up inIreland and living in England. The funniest time was when I took you to Vanderbilt hotel in Newport for high tea and you were telling them how it’s done right. May you rest in peace.
